Spyware and Adware and Botnet’s, Oh My!
The term ‘adware’ refers to software applications that display some form of advertising while the program is running. The ads are typically delivered as a simple banner or pop-up window. A software developer may use adware as a legitimate way to offset programming costs so that the software can be provided for free to the end user. There has been much criticism regarding adware because it has been known to include code that tracks personal information, passing it on to third parties, without the user’s knowledge or consent.
