  1. theres a book out there called optimising your OS.. tonnes of tips, tricks ect.. everything depends on not tweaking but customization to exactly what processes you will want running for exactly what YOU use..

Mostly done by using the run command MSCONFIG

  2. Sometime the simple and logical is the best, ok XP gets a good performance boost when you go up to about 512 to 768 MB of ram, above that the performance increase gets smaller and smaller as you add more ram, That said here’s what I think may help

XP has a “LOT” of services running in the background, many the average user would never use, such as

Wireless network configuration, this loads and runs even if you use a wired network..and many cards come with their own manager

Imapi cd burning, if you use your own like Nero or some other you don’t need this loaded and running

Desktop Sharing…share your destop with someone, um, ah, no thanks, lol

Remote registry service… are you really going to start editing your registry from some other workstation or load an app from there that needs to modify the registry?

Preloads, Apps that partially load to appear fast to the user, find these in the “run” entry in the registry and the Start / All Programs / Startup menu entry

The list goes on and on see the link below to see the XP configuration for all the bloat you can kill off, XP does run pretty quick on even a modest computer, I have had good results on even an 800 MHZ

The list for XP is right in the middle “Popular Content”

    Good Luck
